In the last couple of years, the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) has actively promoted the country as the ideal retreat for those wanting to escape to a tropical getaway with campaigns like “Where Else but Mauritius”. It highlighted the island’s pristine beaches, water and adventure activities, luxurious resorts, exotic wildlife, culture, cuisine and easy accessibility.
A little less well-known is that this Indian Ocean island also has a rich golfing history. According to the MTPA, it was the fourth country in the world to hit the fairways after Scotland, England and India, with the Gymkhana Golf Club the oldest club in the Indian Ocean.
