Golf Digest and Today’s Golfer have published their most recent lists of the best golf courses and best golf resorts in the world.
Golf Digest has Leopard Creek Country Club and Durban Country Club in South Africa as two of the World’s 100 Greatest Courses for 2024-2025. Today’s Golfer has determined 11 of the World’s 100 Greatest Golf Resorts are in Africa. Five are in Mauritius, three in Morocco, two in South Africa and one in Egypt.
As Africa’s leading golf safari DMC, Ascot Tours is perfectly positioned to offer exceptional experiences to these and other top-class golfing facilities on the continent.
The Gary Player-designed Leopard Creek Country Club on the edge of the famed Kruger National Park offers a truly unique golfing experience. This prestigious club is known for its meticulously maintained fairways and greens that seamlessly integrate with the natural landscape.
With inviting views of the Indian Ocean on the one side, the Durban Country Club certainly deserves its place on Golf Digest’s list. A standout feature is its strategic layout, designed to take full advantage of the panoramic views.
Regarding the World’s Best Golf Resorts, Today’s Golfer has defined a resort as “the course and accommodation being part of the same company or group” and/or “on the same site”.
Mauritius is leading the pack with five. They are Anahita (Beau Champ), Le Paradis (Bel Ombre), Le Touessrok (Trou D’Eau Douce), Heritage Awali/Le Telfair (Bel Ombre) and Belle Mare Plage (Pointe de Flacq).
Apart from these, Ascot Tours can further arrange a top golfing excursion to Heritage Le Chateau (Bel Ombre), Ile aux Cerfs Golf (Pointe Maurice), La Reserve Golf Links (Bel Ombre), Paradise Golf (Le Morne Peninsula) and Tamarina (Tamarin).
Morocco’s stature has grown in leaps and bounds after being named the Best African Golf Tourism Destination for 2024. Today’s Golfer singled out Royal Palm Marrakesh (Marrakesh), Mazagan Beach (El Jadida) and Michlifen (Ifrane) on its list as some of the best golf resorts in the world.
Fancourt on South Africa’s Garden Route, with its three Gary Player-designed courses, also makes an appearance on the list. Fancourt Links, Fancourt Montagu Course and Fancourt Outeniqua Course form part of the itinerary of Ascot’s Best of South Africa luxury tour, hosted by CEO Scott Edkins in April 2025.
Not to be outdone is Sun City in the shadow of the Pilanesberg. Here golfers have a choice of the Gary Player Country Club and the Lost City Golf Course, both of which Ascot Tours has access to.
